A bold, tall Kwele antelope mask from Gabon

Hand-carved by the Kwele people of the rainforests of Gabon and the Republic of the Congo, these 'Ekuk' masks are known for their serene, minimalist geometry. The signature heart-shaped face is finished in white kaolin clay and set against bold, dark-stained antelope horns — the antelope a symbol of forest spirits, traditionally invoked to bring social harmony and peace.

At over two-thirds of a metre tall, its clean sculptural lines make a real focal point — striking hung on a wall or leaned against it. Hand-carved from wood with natural pigments, with the small variations in tone and finish of a genuine handmade piece.
